Tufts Health Plan Foundation Accepting Grant Applications

Foundation Seeks to Fund Programs that Help Older Adults Live Healthier Lives

WATERTOWN, MA – March 25, 2013 – The Tufts Health Plan Foundation announced today that it is accepting Letters of Inquiry for its Cycle 2 2013 Healthy Aging grants program. The deadline for submission is Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. EDT.

Each year, in two separate grant cycles, the Tufts Health Plan Foundation awards numerous grants to Massachusetts and Rhode Island non-profit organizations focused on improving the lives of older adults, age 60+. In 2012, the foundation distributed approximately $2.8 million in grants to 77 non-profit organizations. Interested parties should submit applications under one of the following three grantmaking categories:

  • The foundation’s Health & Wellness category focuses on promoting chronic disease self-management and prevention, exercise and nutrition, and mobility, strength and balance for older adults.
  • In the Purposeful Engagement category, programs help older adults engage in their communities and/or with other generations as well as find encore careers and volunteer opportunities. An important part of the foundation’s Purposeful Engagement program area is Caregiver Support. Recognizing the critical role that caregivers play in the lives of older adults, the foundation is committed to finding new and innovative programs for family and other informal caregivers that improve the emotional and physical well-being of caregivers and/or care recipients as well as those that increase knowledge of how to care for an older adult and/or boost awareness of caregiver resources.
  • Empowerment programs provide access to information so that older adults can learn about programs and services in their communities. The foundation also funds transportation programs that empower older adults to be more active in their communities, thereby decreasing social isolation.

Please visit the How to Apply section of our site for more information on the foundation’s grant guidelines, eligibility requirements and process timeline. Letters of Inquiry open for submission on Monday, April 1, 2013. The deadline for submission is Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. EDT. Applications will be reviewed by the foundation’s grant team and finalists will be selected to submit a full proposal, with more detailed information about their programs, by Friday, June 21, 2013.
